This is way overdue…but will kick start the week.

Here is this months Think Outside The Box list.

    1. MAKE YOUR HOME YOUR OWN FANTASY WORLD.

In your space – anything goes. Your fantasy is your reality. If you can dream it you can live it.

    4. CREATE A FUN SPOT IN THE ETERNAL “DEAD SPACE”

Certain areas are always dead spaces. Be creative and make them rock!

    5. LAYER, LAYER, LAYER YOUR FLOORS.

Layer carpet over carpet, or pattern over pattern.

    6. SPICE UP EVERY DAY ITEMS

    7. MIRROR MIRROR ON THE CEILING?

This might be my new favorite! Use reflective mirror paint on the ceiling. Cool.

    8. MAKE YOUR SCHEDULE THE CHICEST THING ABOUT THE ROOM

Create an elegant nail head patterned cork board.

    9. IT’S ALL ABOUT STRIPES.

Nothing perhaps makes an outdoor room feel more “indoors” than painting broad stripes over walls and ceiling.

It’s time again for some outside the box thinking!

    1. ADD SOME SPICE TO YOUR BED!

You spend 1/3 of your life in your bed.  Make the most out of it.  A Dorothy Draper inspired floral headboard perhaps?

Whatever it is you love create it.

    2. PAINT A PATTERN ON YOUR TERRACE FLOOR

Give new life to an old deck. Create a pattern and paint it yourself like Kristin at Hunted Interiors.

    You can find tutorial here.

    www.huntedinterior.com

    The result is awesome.

    3. MIX CLASSIC AND MODERN WITH ABANDON

In love with old classics but want a modern flair? A classic dining table looks fantastic with modern chairs. The more you may think they clash – the better they actually go!

Designer Summer Thornton’s chic space for a client is proof.

4.MIX ALL YOUR FAVORITE PATTERNS – EVERYWHERE!

Forget the old thought that patterns should mix with solids. Take all your favorite patterns and colors and blend them together. On walls. bedding, headboard, for one happy uber chic mix. Superbly done here by Amber Interiors.

    5. ADD A SURPRISING BOLD ACCENT  COLOR SOMEWHERE – JUST BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT.

Breathe life and character and a sense of fun in to your space with a bold jolt.. The color you pick does NOT have to already exist in your room. Just pick what you love and make it work.  Cassie at Hi Sugarplum painted her ceiling bold red.

    6. MAKE A CHANDELIER OUT OF UNUSUAL OBJECTS

    Want a shot?

This stunning chandelier made out of syringes hangs in Sober is Sexy owner’s bedroom. Genius AND stunning.

    7. KEEP YOUR GROCERY SHOPPING LIST ON THE KITCHEN WALL

This way you won’t write a list and misplace it. Paint the wall with chalkboard paint and write what’s on your mind?

    www.huntedinteriors.com

    8. WALLPAPER WITH MAPS

By a bunch of maps you love and use as wallpaper. Perhaps maps of your favorite exotic island?

Okay this series is way overdue. Here are some ways to think outside the box!

    1. HAVE AN OFFICE THAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIVITY

Perhaps the best way to feel creative in your work space is to not follow any of the unnecessary “design rules” you’ve heard. Have mismatched chairs & sofas, no matching finishes, lay carpets on carpets. Perhaps this is the best way to open up your thinking?

    Interior design Ruthie Summers

    2. USE TWO DIFFERENT FABRICS ON YOUR DINING ROOM CHAIRS

This can often be done with great effect. Sometimes it’s the perfect approach to tone down a pattern you love, or sometimes it’s just for fun.

    Interior design Katie Ridder

    3. ADD SLEEPING SPACES IN WEIRD NOOKS

Create a dreamy and fun sleeping wall in an odd shaped ceiling space.

    4. YES IT’S OKAY, PUT THE BED UP AGAINST THE WINDOW

Sometimes there is no perfect wall to put your bed up against so don’t worry about it, just put it up against the window.  How about that natural reading light?

    5. DO CLASSIC WITH A TWIST!

Just because you like classic interiors doesn’t mean there’s no room to play. Lacquer the front door in a classic hue, use a classic wallpaper in a punchy color, and mix in some animal print.

    6. USE A WALLPAPER THAT TRICKS THE EYE

Life can be too serious so why not?

    Interior design: Kelly Wearstler

    7. PILE ON THE TEXTURES!

Sometimes the play with texture is all the character you need.

    Interior Design Katie Ridder

    8. DECORATE WITH EVERYTHING YOU LOVE

    Dark walls- Check, patterns-Check, bright colors-Check, animal prints-Check, painted ceiling-Check, vintage suitcases-Check, shells-Check.

    9. LEAVE YOUR TROUBLES AT THE FRONT DOOR!

There is no better way to come home than to something that lift your spirits. So re think “normal” and create something that shifts your mind from worrying to enjoyment the second you enter!

    10. SAY NO TO BORING DESKS!

Get rid of that plain old wood desk. Live a little, write your to-do lists on an awe inspiring desk.

    Have a great week!
