I realize most of you are starting to sense a crisp fall breeze in the air, but here in LA we’re experiencing the biggest heat weave perhaps on record. (Oh how I miss fall!)

So the thoughts of that cozy fall sweater and fireplace has been swapped out to thoughts on of swimming pools.  I’ve bid on a house, but no news yet. However…that doesn’t stop me from playing around with ideas for improving that retro pool area the house has.

There is not better place to draw pool inspiration perhaps than a Slim Aaron picture?

    Roof top pool anyone?

I’m even naming rugs after a good cool down….

Thought you would enjoy this space with your morning coffee on Saturday morning!

Although already here in the LA area for an entire year, (where the heck does time go??) I have not ventured downtown LA.  As everything here it’s a far drive.  Downtown LA is having a huge revival and it seems all the coolest and trendiest venues are popping up there.  I can’t wait for a free weekend to check it out.  One of the places I want to visit is The Fig House. Stylist and designer Emily Henderson designed a jewel box entertainment space for that can be rented for weddings and parties.

    The result is fantastic. Enjoy!

The wall color is from Farrow & Ball in case you are inspired to paint.

Most pieces are recovered vintage chairs.

House hunting. Have you done it?

You heard me talk about all the amazing new lifestyle changes that came with moving to this beautiful state. What I haven’t shared much of is our frustrating house hunt. When we made the decision to move here, the real estate market was in a slump and there were tons of fixers just waiting to be redone. I’m looking for an ugly duckling to fix, shouldn’t be hard right? Unfortunately the month we started house hunting the market went on an extreme upswing and before I even saw a property a home would have 5-10 bids from developers making the prices sky rocket. Disappointing to say the very least.

So fast forward six months – we’re still in our rental. With slim pickings, crazy prices, old school charm with proximity to Luke’s school and the big blue – is hard to come by.  But I’m not giving up!

This is what a lot of my days look like…

Found this sweet fifties house with a charming guest house in there back. Adorable.

But 5 bids before I even visit, and load traffic noise in the back yard.

Thankfully I’m working with a great real estate broker Henry Dodge the LA Realtor and there are tons of jokes and belly laughs along the way. This was an awesome property amazing ocean views but way out of our price range.

Amazing views in Bel Air though.

Felt I could turn it in to a great family home. But it fell through…

Could this be an office? Open it up and you have ocean views. Hmm…

I’m staying hopeful…and until then we are in our cute bungalow rental in a great part of town.

    Could be worse.

    Are you house hunting?

I know all of you on the east coast is beng pummeled by snow and rain, and all you European readers have cold, dark days right now.

So I thought you might enjoy some of the amazing sunsets we enjoy here in Cali every night.  We live 20 blocks from the beach in Santa Monica. And if there is ever a day I’ve been sitting in the office too long, or feeling a lack of gratitude, I jump on my bike and go down to the beach. If you follow me on INSTAGRAM@JILLSORENSEN you know I can’t stop posting them!

There is never a time it doesn’t leave me in awe of how amazingly beautiful the world is. And seeing the majestic view makes me feel grateful over the simple things.  And  there is no doubt — nature truly is the best designer.

The colors…purple, coral, citron, pink…will all end up in some designs.

It’s impossible not to be inspired by it.
