Hello FEARLESS Home – a Supermodel's eco retreat

Share This:

I get so inspired when I see people live their dream and create a home that truly reflects who they are, and how they want to live. (Hence the name of my blog…LiveLikeYou.)

I read an article about super model Angela Lindvall’s eco home in Malibu and just had to share it. She transformed a piece of land in Topanga Canyon in Malibu to a sustainable paradise for herself and her two sons. The home is in the country side, has dreamy mountain views, yet not even 30 minutes outside LA.  Her eco-home has a filtration system (to cut back on bottled water), huge fruit trees and herb plantings, a charging station for her Ford C-MAX Energy hybrid, and solar panels to power the yurt in her back yard, which is used as a guesthouse.   And perhaps my favorite part, the airy circus-tent-like canopy made from a re purposed army parachute where she and her yoga instructor teach yoga.

The indoors has a lot of character. A cozy rustic retreat with lots of personal touches.

Kind of makes you want to move to California, right?

I came upon talented stylist/author/designer Justina Blakeney a few weeks ago on Instagram, being amazed by her amazing photos of flowers and fruit styled like faces or in cool arrangements. So happy I hopped over to visit her site to find that her home is just as creative as she is.

A fearless home generally has a a fearless family or person living in it.  People who know what they love and have no fear of expressing who they are in their personal space.  Justina’s bohemian California “Jungalow” is such a fun creative space!

The colors are mostly muted pale pinks, metals and natural hues but there’s nothing muted about this space.

A family living their DREAM lifestyle

Share This:

Following your heart has been high on my priority list the last few days.  I’m so excited to know we’re about to make big changes to our lives that’s truly taking steps toward following our dreams.  It’s not always easy to stay true to yourself and what you really want, since responsibilities, commitments  and the security of the “known” is a strong gravitational pull.  I appreciate all of you who commented here and Facebook more than you know – so inspiring! I’d LOVE to hear more about what you are doing. As soon as more things get sorted out I’ll share more of our details.

So posting my Swedish friend fashion stylist and journalist Jennifer Jansch charming soul filled house in Sweden fits right in.  I’ve been waiting to put this on the blog, but had to wait for it to come out in Lonny this past weekend!  (You saw their amazing Stockholm apartment on the blog here and at met her at a shoot here.) She moved with her family to NYC to pursue their dream of living in Manhattan. But summers are spent at heir dreamy Swedish summer house.

Can’t wait to visit!

Nothing beats Swedish summers. Really nothing.

Pippi Longstocking inspired generations of Swedish women to live free spirited lives in charming old wood houses, where fun and imagination is part of the daily deal. It’s been etched in to our souls!

Hello FEARLESS home! (Swedish Style)

Share This:

The main reason I started Live Like You was to inspire people to decorate their homes in a way that truly reflected themselves. I saw too many depressing, non nondescript, lifeless interiors without imagination that made me depressed. Often with people living in them having NO I clue how negatively it impacted their lives. Yes it’s true, it affects you more than you think! I’m curious…do you agree, or disagree?

Creating a home that truly reflects you is of course not always going to be popular. It’s a space you that is there to make only YOU happy.  It’s not there to impress your guests or look like a museum. Whatever it is that makes YOU happy is fine with me, as long as you do SOMETHING!

This home done by a Swedish stylist/designer for her family on the ocean in Southern Sweden is definitely a fearless home.

A blank white canvas with lots of imagination and playing with scale.

A serious mixture of items to love.

Home made chandelier. (It looks like personal notes?)

A place for the soul?

Re purposed antiques.

Love the yellow pants!

Expressive art.

Just cool.

I hope this post inspires you to look around your home and see what you can do to make it personal and a place you love.

I’ve said it a million times, changing your home is not about money, it’s about imagination and effort.

And seriously life is simply too short not to.

Your home is for you, nobody else.

I always get a kick out of homes that are completely fearlessly designed.  Whether you love them or not, kudos to the person who feels free enough to express who they are in their home. Instead of following trends or hoping people will like it, they just go for it. This is Christina Anguilera’s previous home.  It’s not so difficult to see what kind of person lives here, what she is like and what her profession is.

Don’t you think?

Think this home follows just about every sentence written in our MANIFESTO.

The selection of this house for the fearless home series was my brother’s excellent idea. In the late 1800’s in Sweden when most interiors had dark wood furniture and a very serious vibe. Famous artist Carl Larsson and his wife Karin designed their home with strong wild colors, and all kinds of crazy painter happiness. You might have seen some of his famous paintings of this beautiful home.

This couple was seriously ahead of their time!  Their home still serves as insane inspiration hundred years later.

At a time when people had dark dining sets, theirs was bright red.

He painted lots and lots of paintings of his family in their home.

Happy entrance.

Red floor in the 1800’s? How cool.

How clever…a sleeping cabinet? Bold blue DIY chairs 100 years before it was popular.

His son’s colorful desk.

The main area. Check out the green lines defining the walls. Move over Lonny magazine…!!

Another happy sleeping alcove.

This was Carls’ bedroom.

Karin’s home made room divider.

Don’t you want to just go home and paint your walls after seeing this?

You might have already seen this Greenwich village home in Harper’s Bazaar, or on another blog.

But it really belongs in this series.

This last image is not the same house….

….but it’s the same owner’s second or former  home.

Perhaps a fearless owner?

New Series : Hello FEARLESS home!

Share This:

My brother Peter e-mailed me an article from a Swedish newspaper the other day that he felt was very Live Like You! The title was “We are the opposite of minimalists”.  It was about a couple in Sweden who refused to have what they referred to as a catalog home. Both husband and wife are lovers of design and share a pretty fearless unusual taste and decorated their home in their own unique way. It inspired me to start a new series to showcase some people who design their home according to their heart…..Hello fearless home!

All images from Expressen

The lamps above the dining table are heating lamps for baby pigs! Who would have known?

They love big colorful wallpapers and mixed lots of vintage and flea market finds with nice antiques.

Typical old Swedish bed with the famous old rag carpets.

The husband came home with an old rusted cart that he found in a river. He turned it in to a chair!

Again, lots of bold colored and strong patterns on the walls.

Bold on bold…why not?

The bottom line is, your home is where you, you should feel free to express who you are, not create something that just fits in. I have to agree with Jonathan Adler, no matter what design style you like…MINIMALISM IS A BUMMER!! Hm…yeah life is definitely too short for that.

My friend's AMAZING Stockholm apartment!

Share This:

Some people have the most cool style.  It’s something you can’t create or pretend to have, it’s something unexplainable that extends to every visual way that person expresses themselves. It’s no wonder  Jennifer Jansch is a popular stylist in Sweden.  This fall she took a big leap of faith and moved to New York city with her three daughters and husband.  I love New York, but I know  it was hard to leave this beautiful apartment!  The design has been a labor of love, a mixture of auction “wins” and vintage finds from Sweden’s version of Craig’s list. The result is a super chic cool family space.  It just came out in Skona Hem last week, so I finally have the go ahead to post it here on the blog.

Dining room.

Master bedroom. Don’t you love the carpet?

Jennifer in her pretty apartment.

The kitchen chairs are vintage finds that have been  repainted, the table is Ikea.

This kitchen makes me home sick!!

Playful colors and patterns.

Dreamy colors.

Must have been so hard to leave!

I hope you all are having a great week so far.
